HOMEWORK

A parent's thoughtful assistance to a child is essential to its progress - reading to and with the child, encouraging hobbies, library membership, help with the learning of tables and spellings all help to promote learning.

Children commence homework almost as soon as they start school as we expect them to take home a suitably graded reading book each night to read to their parents until such time as children are reading with fluency.

From Year 2 onwards homework will gradually increase in its demands - differentiated to take account of individual needs and might include:

  • finding out information

  • reading in preparation for lessons

  • preparing oral presentations

  • traditional written assignments in mathematics and English.

At the commencement of each academic year the class teacher will issue a letter providing guidelines on homework.

SCHOOL DISCIPLINE
POLICY

Our children are encouraged to be self-disciplined and show concern for the feelings of others.  They are expected to understand and follow the few basic rules of the school, which are introduced to ensure the safety and general welfare of all its members.  A copy of the School Discipline Policy is given to all parents.

The children are divided into four houses.  Merit points are awarded for good work, effort or kind act and each week the winning house receives a trophy.  Poor behaviour can result in the loss of merit points or a playtime.

EXTRA CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES

Such activities as inter-school football, netball, cricket, rounders, swimming galas and cross-country events and practices take place on a regular basis after school.  We also prepare our junior choir for the annual Macclesfield Music Festival and enter a country dance team in the Macclesfield Dance Festival each year.

At present we run weekly after-school clubs for recorder, computers, chess, dance, gymnastics, cross country and team sports.
